Gary Magadzire School of Agriculture and Natural Sciences 10
Welcome to the Gary Magadzire School of Agriculture and Natural Sciences located at the University’s Main Campus. It derives its inspiration from Gary Magadzire who was the first president of the Zimbabwe Farmers Union and an agriculturalist in nature. Science and Agriculture have always been integral components of the Zimbabwean culture as evidenced by the sophisticated architectural designs and economic system which sustained the communities that resided at and around the Great Zimbabwe Monuments.

The Department offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Mathematics, Statistics and Operations Research and Computer Science. It also provides service modules to other Departments within the University.

The Geography and Environmental programme is an integrated field of study designed to provide professional training and develop students capable to address research problems regarding environmental issues and resource management.

Herbert Chitepo Law School 0
Located in the Central Business District of Masvingo, the Herbert Chitepo Law School is named after an eminent nationalist, Advocate Herbert Pfumaindini Chitepo, who led the liberation war from Zambia and the first black lawyer in Zimbabwe. Advocate Chitepo was also the first black lawyer to be admitted as a barrister in England and the first Attorney-General of an independent Tanzania. The Herbert Chitepo Law School offers state of the art teaching and learning facilities. Besides a unique and stunning Moot Court theatre, the School has lecture rooms that are adorned with air conditioners, chalk-less white boards and projector screens. Students at the School have access to wifi. Graduates from the Herbert Chitepo Law School are expected to uphold the basic principles of human justice, democracy and rule of law which Advocate Chitepo stood for. The name of the school, Herbert Chitepo Law School, is expected to help the graduates to foster the sense of responsibility to national good and social equality in the country. It is hoped that every graduate will leave the Herbert Chitepo Law School pumped up with the nationalist spirit; commitment to the development of Zimbabwe and Patriotism.The School has the smallest enrolment within the University and this is a requirement by our parent board to ensure quality and fully baked lawyers.

The department strives to offer Afrocentric counselling and psychology. This is in line with the University niche of restoration and preservation of culture. The Centre endeavours to transform unequal gender relations that are prevalent in society today. Both males and females are empowered with knowledge and skills they utilize in social transformation. The Nehanda Centre puts emphasis on five key pillars which are; Undergraduate and Postgraduate Studies; Research and Policy Advocacy; Training and Community Engagement; Knowledge Management; and Business Development.

Munhumutapa School Of Commerce 91
Welcome to the Munhumutapa School of Commerce. The School draws its inspiration from the University niche of Culture and Heritage. In view of this, all programmes in the school have modules and/ or topics in the respective subject areas that have an emphasis on the following ethno-commercial activities: Trade and Commerce in African traditional societies and cultures from the Munhumutapa period to the emerging of colonial rule. Transition from pre-colonial to colonial rule Post colonialism trade and commerce in Africa and Zimbabwe in particular.

It later became a cluster of Marketing and Economics Department in 2005. In 2010, it became a fully-fledged Department of Economics when the two departments of Economics and Marketing were created.

In these programmes some international students from countries such as Namibia and South Sudan also enroll. Jairosi Jiri Centre For Special Needs Education 0
The Jairos Jiri Centre for Special Needs Education focuses on developing teachers for pupils with disabilities and other special educational needs. The Centre also provides support services for Great Zimbabwe University students with special educational needs. It is an arm of the Robert Mugabe School of Education and Culture. The Centre derives its operation from the Zimbabwean legend Jairos Jiri who was the first Black person to establish support services and special schools in Zimbabwe.

Simon Muzenda School of Arts, Culture and Heritage studies 62
The Simon Muzenda School of Arts, Culture and Heritage Studies derives its inspiration from the late Vice President of Zimbabwe Cde Simon Muzenda who was named Son of the soil due to his deep rootedness in Culture and Heritage (Unhu/Ubuntu) as it is termed in Shona and Ndebele Dialects. It is these values that the School holds highly. Apart from that it is pertinent to also know that one of Great Zimbabwe University’s niche areas is Arts, Culture and Heritage Studies. The School is located in Mashava some 45km west of Masvingo and it a wide range of programmes. The School also houses the Centre of Culture and Heritage Studies which solely focuses on the University’s niche are of reclamation and preservation of culture and heritage.

Department of African Languages and Culture 7
The Department is the face of culture and heritage in the institution as the languages of Africa carry the cultures that are the center of African civilizations and heritages. The Department approaches language and culture using practical methodologies that seek to transform society through teaching and research. The Department of African Languages and Literature was the first in the country to broaden the scope of African languages beyond Chishona and Isindebele by raising and developing Tshivenda and Xichangana in Zimbabwe in partnership with the University of Venda. The Department is also the pioneer in the training of interpreters and translators in the country.

The English and Media Studies Department houses three sections, English Literature and Applied communication and Media Studies. The Department currently offers the following degree programmes: English and Applied Communication, a programme that combines the study of Literature and Applied Communication as essentially cultural exercises, Media and Cultural Studies which essentially is a skills-based programme that offers practical modules which provide students with hands-on exposure to the media industry and a Masters in Literary Studies which provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the socio-cultural function of creative literature. Since its inception, the Department has striven to combine theoretical and vocational training in their course offerings and this will continue into the future.

Centre For Culture and Heritage Studies 0
Welcome to the Centre for Culture and Heritage Studies (CCHS) which currently operates from the Great Zimbabwe University’s Mashava Campus. The CCHS is a non-teaching, research and support unit of the Simon Muzenda School of Arts, Culture and Heritage Studies. This Centre solely focuses on research and outreach activities that promote the University’s niche area of culture and heritage. Established in January 2010, initially as the Institute of Culture and Heritage Studies (ICHS), the Centre prioritises research, training and outreach activities in areas of arts, culture and heritage. The Centre is currently responsible for spearheading culture and heritage activities, programmes and research projects in line with the University’s mandate. The Centre also organizes exhibitions, seminars and workshops, conducts research and consultancy work, and produces publications to raise awareness of the need for heritage preservation and cultural reclamation, and to influence cultural policy issues and to keep the public informed about the importance of creative industries.
